In case you missed the memo, it's almost National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day (yes, really), and Alaska Airlines is planning to celebrate yet again.

We love scoring special perks on a flight, and sometimes, early boarding is just the perk you need. There's an extra festive way to jump the line Friday on your Alaska flights.

Alaska is back with its annual ugly sweater promotion. If there was ever a time to flaunt one of your grandma's old Christmas sweaters or intentionally buy a fun holiday one to use year after year at office parties and beyond, this is it.

On Dec. 15 — National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day — you'll get priority boarding after Group B on your flight if you don a tacky, festive or just downright merry sweater. The one-day promotion includes all Alaska and Horizon Air flights.

Alaska Airlines is again selling its own version of a holiday sweater, too, though you don't have to wear the carrier's version to get in on the early boarding.

As for why the airline does this, Alaska has described itself as the "merrier carrier" for a number of years when it comes to its approach to holiday travel.

"Our holiday sweater is just one of the many ways the team at Alaska is delighting guests and employees this holiday season," Eric Edge, Alaska Airlines' managing director of marketing and advertising, shared in an Alaska Airlines statement.

Alaska Airlines frequently appears toward the top of TPG's list of the best airlines in the U.S., and its Mileage Plan program offers some of the more valuable types of airline miles in the U.S.

If you want to boost your Mileage Plan balance, consider signing up for the Alaska Airlines Visa® credit card while it has an offer of 60,000 bonus miles plus Alaska's Famous Companion Fare from $122 ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) after spending $3,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days from account opening. That'll make your flights on Alaska sweeter even once the annual sweater day has come and gone.
